The Eucharist

The term “Eucharist” originates from the Greek word 'eucharistia', meaning "thanksgiving.

The Beginning and the End.
While they were eating, JESUS took a piece of bread, gave a prayer of thanks, broke it, and gave it to his disciples. “Take and eat it,” he said, “this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks to God, and gave it to them. “Drink it, all of you,” he said; “this is my blood, which seals God’s covenant, my blood poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will never again drink this wine until the day I drink the new wine with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”

(Mark 14. 22-26; Luke 22. 14-20; 1 Cor. 11.23-25)

The Best Time You Will Spend On Earth

To be present to the One who is present. The Catholic Church encourages both private and public devotion toward the Eucharist and teaches that prayer before the Lord sacramentally present in the Eucharist actually "extends the union with Christ which the faithful have received in Communion."

Pope Francis reflects with wonder on ‘the miracle of the Eucharist’

Pope Francis said Sunday that the Eucharist is a “miracle” in which Jesus nourishes us with his life and satisfies the hunger in our hearts. “All of us need the Eucharist,” Pope Francis said in his Angelus address on Aug. 18.

“The heavenly bread, which comes from the Father, is the Son made flesh for us. This food is more than necessary because it satisfies the hunger for hope, the hunger for truth, and the hunger for salvation that we all feel not in our stomachs but in our hearts.”

The Pope’s reflection centered on Jesus’ words recorded in Chapter 6 of the Gospel of John: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven.”

What is your response to the eucharist?

“The Eucharist is also questioned by the world. What is this “thing” that you believe in? When we say it is God, the world turns away. As we saw in the horrific opening ceremony at the Olympics, the World wishes to mock the Eucharist. And so, aware of this mockery, we as Catholics should manifest to the world what true love and devotion for the Eucharist is and what our disposition ought to be. When the King of the Universe grants us a share in His Life, we must commit to our devotion, commit to this Bread of Heaven.”

Eucharistic Miracles &Testimonies

Eucharistic miracle is a miracle involving the Eucharist, which the Catholic Church, believe and teach that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. Jesus said to [Thomas], “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed” (John 20:29).

Carlo Acutis was a young Italian Catholic who created a Eucharistic Miracle Display that would tour the world and an accompanying website. The exhibit has 160 panels and has been on display in numerous parishes around the world. Beatified by the Catholic Church in Assisi – Italy, on October 10, 2020, he is now known as Blessed Carlo Acutis. He believed that if people knew that Jesus was truly present in the Eucharist, they would turn to God. Blessed Carlo Acutis created a website listing Eucharistic Miracles around the world.

Prayer-Starters

For those times when we just have a few moment to pray, or when we feel heavy-hearted, distracted or too anxious to pray, "prayer-starters" inspire and motivate us to enter into an encounter with Jesus. Certain prayer-starters spent three or more hours daily in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.

Jesus transforms a white particle into himself every day in order to communicate his life to you. What’s more, with a love that is greater still, he wants to transform you into himself.

  • St. Thérèse of Lisieux

If we really love the good God, we will find it a joy and happiness to spend some time near Him, to adore Him, and keep company with so good a friend. He is there in the tabernacle. What is Jesus doing in this sacrament of love? He is loving us.

  • St. Jean-Marie Vianney

Pause before the tabernacle by yourself, for no special reason, even without saying a word, simply remaining in Christ’s presence, comteplating the supreme gesture of love contained in the consecrated Bread.

  • St. John Paul II
